the nude in nature

a photography workshop with award-winning photographer Karin Rosenthal
august 19 - 23, 2011
Wakefield, PQ

about the program
This workshop is intended for intermediate-level photographers.  While prior experience in working with the nude would be helpful, it is not a prerequisite. The workshop will be guided by our accomplished instructor, Karin Rosenthal.  To ensure ample opportunity for personal interaction with our instructor, the workshop will be limited to eight photographers.

the location
We will be staying at Labrador Lodge, a private and luxurious chalet located just outside Wakefield, Quebec.  Situated on 3 acres of picturesque woodland with 700 feet of private waterfront on Chip Lake, this is the perfect setting to explore the subject.  Parking is available at the site for those who wish to drive and we will also arrange car pooling from Ottawa. The arts&architecture gallery in Ottawa, sponsors of the workshop, will be hosting an exhibition of the best of the work completed during the workshop.  Each student will have the opportunity to participate and the exhibit will take place during the fall, 2011 – more details to follow!

the schedule
Participants are expected to arrive at 4 PM Friday, August 19, to settle in.  After introductions, we will enjoy a group dinner followed by a slide presentation and discussion. The next four days will be filled with photo sessions with the models and intensive critiques with our instructor.  Time will be given between sessions for organizing and editing your images for presentation to the group.Breakfast and lunch will be prepared for you at the chalet.  With the exception of the first evening, participants will have the chance to enjoy dinners at restaurants in nearby Wakefield. The workshop will finish at 5pm on Tuesday, August 23.

our instructor: Karin Rosenthal
Karin has photographed the nude in nature since 1975 and for the last 15 years has led students at all skill levels to discover the genre in an original and personal way.  Her nudes have been published internationally and are represented in numerous museum collections.  Rosenthal’s photographin the exhibition First Doubt: Optical Confusion in Modern  Photography at the Yale University Art Gallery was selected to represent the show of 100images by 20th Century photographers and was featured in the New York Times Review.  She has received several grants and prizes including Grand Prize in the 2010 Renaissance Interna-tional Photography Competition and First Prize in Nudes for the Julia Margaret Cameron Awards.  Rosenthal’s work expands the concept of nude from the erotic to the metaphysical, seeing our bodies as vessels of Being within all of nature’s components.
